Anti Estrogens - A Descriptive Guide

Anti-estrogens or estrogen blockers are substances that help in blocking the effect of estrogen. These natural steroid hormones are primarily responsible for regulating the female reproductive cycle and are useful for treatment of breast cancer. Bodybuilders use them for increasing muscle mass, promoting muscle development, and reducing side effects of consuming steroids. Aromatase inhibitors and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) are two categories of these blockers. The first one works by decreasing creation of these hormones and the latter works by blocking its receptor itself. Though, both types of blockers help in reducing risk of breast cancer and provide relief from symptoms of menopause. Why Bodybuilders Use Anti Estrogens? It is imperative for bodybuilders and athletes to keep an optimum level of the steroid hormones for maintaining great and healthy body. This is because of the reason that excess of these hormones in the body leads to prostate cancer and reduces muscle strength. In order to inhibit its level in the body, people often consume anti-estrogen supplements or pills. These pills in turn aid in maintaining ideal level of this hormone in the body. However, it is always better to consult with a health expert before taking any of these supplements. Availability of Anti-Estrogens in Different Forms These blockers are available in different forms in different parts of the world. In some countries, the interested ones buy them as over-the-counter dietary supplements. In the rest parts of the world, they are available as prescription medications. Just like all medications, people may experience short-term side effects like bruising, dizziness, blurred vision, etc., after taking them. However, there is nothing to panic about, as these adverse effects are mild in nature and go away with regular dosage. Besides taking these blockers, the level of this hormone is easy to maintain through dietary means as well. Take Anti-Estrogen Diet to Control Hormone Level Experts believe that some chemicals and few dietary sources of plant estrogen contribute towards increasing the hormone level. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid such food; instead intake of organic food items is a better option. Experts recommend a healthy and balanced diet in this regard, which should consist of fruits (red grapes, pomegranates), fresh cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli), whole grains (wheat, oats, millet, barley), seeds (sesame, flax, chia), mushrooms, and green tea among others. However, this form of diet does not include meat, dairy products, vegetables, and fruits, since all these eatables contain pesticide residue in high quantity. Hence, it is better to choose either of the two methods – either take these pills or consume a nutritious diet that helps in maintaining ideal level of hormones in the body. While the latter option is better due to the natural ingredients that your diet will contain, there are still many who prefer consuming pills.
